Republic of Panama

Panama was established as a Republic on November 3, 1903, due to the separation of Panama from Colombia, with the aid of the United States of America. Thanks to the assistance received from the United States of America, the construction of the Panama Canal is given to him, by means of the Hay-Bunau Varilla Treaty on November 18, 1903, as it was started by the French and due to many factors, they could not finish it.

Before Panama was established as Republic, it was dominated by Spain (from there the Spanish language), but it was until the 28th of November, 1821 that the independence between both countries took place, thanks to a rebellion initiated on the 10th of November, 1821 known as the “Cry for Freedom” at La Villa de Los Santos, later, Panama joined the Great Colombia of General Simón Bolivar, due to many factors.

The Republic of Panama has many events that set the course of Panama as an independent republic, for example: the incident of January 9, 1964, called Martyrs Day, although one of the most important facts was on the 7th of September, 1977 when the treaties Torrijos-Carter in Washington DC were signed between Omar Torrijos (Head of Government of Panama) and Jimmy Carter (President of the United States of America), where the delivery of the Panama Canal and the total sovereignty of Panama was established.
